Arrowed this dude on film this afternoon, opening day of late blacktail season here in Oregon. Hammered him from my tree stand at 10 yards, he sprinted down the hill and crashed into a tree before going down in sight. Awesome footage especially for blacktail…had four or five bucks come under my stand today that were too small to shoot on the opener (the big forked horn notwithstanding). Finally, at about 3 this afternoon this dude cruised by…stopped him with a mouth grunt. It was a windy, rainy, mild but cold day when you’re soaked…typical November weather in Oregon.
Ya’ll might notice, I am wearing Mossy Oak’s new pattern, Tree Stand. I think it looks pretty dang good and obviously worked like a charm. No surprises there. What an awesome day…I have wanted to capture the essence of Oregon blacktail during the rut on film for a long time. Today was a dream come true and I gotta give props to Chad Montgomery, my home town buddy of many years. He captured some amazing footage. We have been bowhunting blacktail forever…the challenge was our first true bowhunting love years and years ago, long before magazine work or TV shows. It was a special day to be able to share it with him. Gonna be a tough one to top.
