First Love....through the years

My first bow kill was a spike bull in next, a Pope & Young blacktail buck in 1990. Since that time I have been obsessed with bowhunting trophy blacktail. So much so, I wrote a book by the same title, "Bowhunting Trophy Blacktail" sharing what I have learned about the species over the years.

Dreaming of big blacktail is what motivated in the early years of my bowhunting career. The blacktail deer was truthfully my first love. I don't remember the first girl I kissed, but I do remember arrowing that first big 3x3 out on "Dead End" like it was yesterday. Hit him high and dropped him in his tracks.

In the mid to late 90's I used a handful of Oregon deer tags on big Eagle Cap mule deer, but I've come home so to speak. Focusing on blacktail again here lately and as predicted, loving every second of it. Lots of memories here in this post. This isn't all the blacktail I've arrowed, but this is the best of the lot. Even got lucky on a Boone & Crockett awards book qualifying buck in 2002 I think it was.

Keep hunting hard guys, Cam
